Salary:                                  $54,319 - $68,746 (+ 13.25% Superannuation)

The primary function of this role is to develop and implement effective campaigns and strategies to build member’s collective power in the workplace. There is also a strong emphasis on recruiting members and developing member activists and workplace leaders.  The position will report to the team Official and Lead Organiser.

This position is located in the CSIRO team in Sydney. The organiser will work as required by national priorities, with primary responsibility within the Section’s organising team for CSIRO and Anglo Australian Observatory workplaces in NSW. The position will require some travel to workplaces in Northern and Western NSW.

Selection Criteria

 

Essential

 

  • Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and social justice
  • Excellent listening, verbal communication and interpersonal skills – ability to establish rapport, explore issues, encourage critical analysis and gain commitment to action
  • Ability to assist and advise members with individual issues/grievances
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and mobilize union members, workplace activists, and volunteers
  • Ability to analyse issues/problems and develop strategies to deal with them
  • Ability to deal professionally with diverse groups of people, including members, delegates and union officials
  • Enthusiasm, energy and creativity to do a challenging job in a difficult environment

 

Desirable

 

  • Good written communication skills – ability to write leaflets, letters or reports and analyse written documents
  • Familiarity/experience with the science industry and related industrial issues
  • Current drivers’ license
